THE CLIMB
THE CLIMB, 2019
Construction of the elegant circular iron stairway inside the historic 9-story San Francisco Mechanics’ Institute began in 1909, three years after the devastating 1906 earthquake. Renowned architect Albert Pissis carefully designed the entire building, incorporating exquisite Belgian black and Tennessee pink marble walls. The intricate iron grate showcases a classic Greek key pattern spiraling upward from the grand lobby all the way to the serene library floors above.
